:Endodontic infection depends on bacteria which is considered an essential etiologic factor of initial and recurrent infection. The entire removal of these microbes during treatment effects the successful treatment and prevents their recolonization within the treated root canal system.
Conventional root canal shaping and irrigation cleans the root canal but decreases the strength of the root canal by unnecessary removal of dentin without efficient removal of the smear layer which may be harbored by microorganisms.
Ultrasonic agitation of a root canal irrigant has limited influence in the apical region of the root canal because of limited space for the tip to move. EDTA can remove the majority of the smear layer but as all demineralizing agents it affects the strength of the root canal.
Magnetic agitation is a new method of agitation of normal saline root canal irrigant impregnated with iron oxide nanomagnet particles to remove the smear layer without the need for further widening of the root canal dimensions. The iron particles precipitate on the surface and inside the dentinal tubules which improves the strength of the root canal and decrease possible future fracture of the root.
